As my first Chicago date idea I thought i’d begin with something classic…a dinner & a movie but with a little Windy City twist! So what makes this so different? The majority of the movie was filmed where you will be dining…
Dinner: Twin Anchors Restaurant and Tavern. This Old Town restaurant has soooooo much history, you and your date will never run out of things to talk about…can we say ice breaker??? This watering hole was a favorite of Frank Sinatra back in the day and their ribs are to die for! Cute and cozy but nothing too fancy, this is a fun and lively place for your first night out. Put your name in and grab a drink at the bar while you wait to be seated. Check out their website listed below to find out more history (aka topics of conversation).
Tip: Since there are NO RESERVATIONS, come on a weekday or come early on the weekend. If you end up with a long wait…no worries! Head over to Angelo’s Taverna (literally a hop, skip and jump away down the street) to keep the ball rolling and change of scenorey for a couple cocktails. Be sure to head back in time to hear your name called for a table.
Movie: “Return to Me”. Now that both of you have full bellies and are quite tipsy, head back to your place to watch the movie. As mentioned above, the majority of the setting takes place at Twin Anchors (called O’Reilly’s in the film). It’s a total chick flick and it’s fun to watch after actually being there. It’s also incredible to see how much Chicago has changed.
Tip: Be sure to clean your place and make sure the movie is working properly before the date. Also have some wine or beer on handy just in case..no one likes a buzz kill! If you’re a total cheese ball, download some Frank Sinatra music.
