Fat Tuesday!: Chicago Date Ideas

Well it’s official. Fat Tuesday is here. Grab your girls, grab you boys or grab your sweetie, because this is no day to microwave left overs for dinner. Although Chi City is no New Orleans, there are more than enough places to celebrate the Mardi Gras festivities.

Heaven On Seven – Known as “the best Louisiana cookin’ outside of New Orleans”, this restaurant is located in the same building as the AMC theatre in River North. Alongside food specials and a live band, be sure to partake in the $5 Hurricane and Beer Bar in the lobby. The price is a reason to celebrate alone!

Carnivale – The name itself means the beloved Brazilian “fat tuesday” event, Carnival. Treat yourselves to the Carnival-inspired spread while enjoying samba dancing, live music and a stilt walker! Now that’s entertainment.

Bourbon Street (aka Division Street) – I believe this will be the closest you can get to the debauchery of Mardis Gras this Tuesday. Division Street is morphing itself into Bourbon Street by creating it’s own street feast. With special offers from participating bars (Bootleggers, Mother’s and She-nannigans), a band playing in the middle of Division, street freaks and stilt walkers, mixed with a little beads…need I say more?

The Pony Inn – This Lakeview bar will also be celebrating Fat Tuesday by featuring a themed food and drink menu. Includes $5 Hurricanes and $7 Bourbon Street Chicken Sizzlers. Yowzers!

The 50/Fifty – If the “Big Beads” contest doesn’t get you here, the drink deals will:

$3 Jameson shots (a little St. Patrick’s Day practice)

$5 Malibu rum shots and mixed drinks
$5 Absolut vodka shots and mixed drinks
$9 24oz Rum Runners

Basically, whoever collects the most beads (don’t ask me how), will win a private party for themselves and 10 friends at The Fifty/50 at a later date. The winner is declared at midnight… otherwise, you turn into a pumpkin.

So grab your beads, grab a hurricane and get down to that Dixieland jazz. Happy Fat Tuesday everyone!
