Although the Bears are not in season, Ditka’s still is. Especially every Sunday. Owned by the infamous Bear’s coach, Mike Ditka, this is a wonderful lunch haven and ideal for a little Sunday Fun-Day (if you know what I mean). Although well known, it tends to be slightly off the radar this time of day. Which is good for getting a table.
With a plethora of upscale bar food and note worthy cocktails, the vibe is always lively. I happened to meet my girlfriend here for a little gossip and catching up…
…over a bloody mary of course. Check out the size of that vegetable and shrimp skewer! Ditka’s bloodies are so good they actually sell the mix at the grocery store. But as my mom always says, go directly to the source. Can’t argue with that.
As far as the lunch food goes, you could probably close your eyes, point and be quite satisfied with your blind selection. My boyfriend hearts the wrap and my date of the day got the Blue Cheese Burger. I have never had it, but it certainly got my attention. However shockingly for a bar menu, I find the Crispy Tuna-Advocado Roll an unexpected treat. Light, flakey and amazing flavor, this appetizer is quite the satisfying meal.
Trust me, it’s better than it looks. Then some how I was talked into a magical, copper mug concoction. The Mule. Have you ever had one of these puppies? Me neither! But you should. I went with the Paris Mule, while my little Russian friend went with the Moscow Mule. Made with ginger beer and fancy liquor (depending which country you order), it is basically a ginger ale for grown ups.
I mean who doesn’t want to drink out of a copper mug? Also learn to appreciate the detailing…it’s all part of the experience.
So just kick back, relax and enjoy your food…and your company. As they say, when at Ditka’s, do as Da Coach would do.
Cheers!
