I have done a few “dinner and a movie” ideas, but my significant other recently showed me this nifty trick, which I think you will like too! The location makes it ideal for catching a flick either before or after your meal. And I am telling you this is one of those secret spots only the locals know about.
If you have ever been to AMC River East 21 movie theatre in Streeterville, you have probably noticed the most obvious dinner choices; PJ Clarks, Niu Japanese Fusion Lounge and of course Lucky Strike (actually located in the theatre). All three do the trick, but nothing compares to The Market Bistro. Tucked inside the Fox and Obel grocery store, it doesn’t get anymore convenient than literally right across the street from the AMC.
The best feature by far is the BYOB, no corkage fee. The only stipulation is you must purchase your booze in the grocery store. And their selection is fabulous. Is the bottle you want room temp? No problem! They can chill it in 10 minutes flat while you are seated and browsing the menu. Not bad huh?
Right on the river, the small menu changes seasonally to give you the best ingredients possible. Although we didn’t get it, the $24 steak should give you an indication of the reasonable prices. Now that’s a steal!
To start, we were served an arranged bread basket with olive oil and a bloop of balsamic.
After examining every inch of the menu, I finally decided on the Wild Mushroom Risotto for my main course.
See that white dollop on top of my risotto? That is Truffle Whipped Cream. And yeah, it was as good as you can imagine. I also ordered a side of the Braised Black Kale and Roasted Apples.
I have to tell you the ingredients were fresh and perfectly prepared but I’ll be honest… just a bit odd for my liking.
With our highest point the food and the lowest point the bill, this is a slam dunk. The BYOB option keeps the cost minimal and the quaint ten table space enhances the intimacy. So skip the crowd, skip the typical restaurant mark ups and dine at The Market Bistro.
As far as the movie goes, now that’s up to you. Have fun!
