Before the meal began, we had to select our drink of choice. We went with the cocktail pairing but a wine and non-alcoholic pairing are available too. Our pairing included a beer made specifically and only for Next.
Inspired by the street vendors of Thailand, our newspaper turned tablecloth was accompanied by plastic cups and utensils! A little taken back (considering the price of our tickets), I appreciated the thought and inspiration that went into it.
Our street food platter consisted of roasted bananas, prawn cake, sweet shrimp, fermented sausage and steamed buns.
The fish dish (literally) followed shortly after. Catfish. Typically not served in fancy, expensive restaurants, this dressed up fish was the surprise of the night. Growing up in Oklahoma with a Catfish Fry every Friday, I was a little skeptical. But it was perfectly prepared, delicious and the least bit fishy. Well done Grant, well done.
Getting to the desert portion of the evening, I loved how the whole coconuts were served to our table. Simply lifting up the top revealed the treasure inside, just like a jewelry box. Shaved coconut ice with corn, egg and licorice.
At the end of the meal, our waiter offered to take us back to the kitchen. We were introduced to the man that runs the show and makes it all come together (no not Grant).
Here he showed me my “ticket”. To explain to how attentive this place is, see the two times written on the bottom? Those were the two times I went to the bathroom. This system ensures food is served when everyone is seated and at the perfect time. Have you ever heard of anything so incredible?! And this is what makes Next, Next.
