Holiday Hot Toddies: Chicago Date Ideas

One of my favorite Christmas past times in Chicago is cozying up by the fireplace and enjoying a holiday cocktail or two. Whether it be a date, your friends or even your parents, hit up one of the city’s finest hotels and sip on a wintery libation. I have listed a few I have tried in the past and a few I will be sampling in the near future. Cheers!

1. Chestnuts Roasting and Holiday Cocktails

I took my mom here last year and we had an absolute blast. The best part is the complimentary chestnuts served warm and toasty. Sit by the fireplace and sip on one of their several festive cocktails such as the Frosty the Snowtini, Ebenezer’s Egg Nog, or Executive Chef Kevin Hickey’s decadent Haute Chocolate. The Frosty the Snowtini was our beverage of choice.

2. Park Chocolate Bar
Nomi Lounge at the Park Hyatt
    12:00 – 5:00 PM Daily

As 312 Dining Diva recently blogged, enjoy pastry chef’s signature hot chocolate bar in the lounge at the lovely, sophisticated Nomi Lounge in the Park Hyatt Hotel. Talk about a first class view of Michigan Avenue too! Top off your decadent Valrhona hot chocolate with all the fixings. Think coconut, banana, cinnamon and espresso…oh boy what to choose! For some extra warmth, add a little splash of Kahlua, Grand Marnier, Bourbon or Rum.

3. Seasonal Delights
Coq d’Or at The Drake Hotel
    12:00 PM – 12:00 AM

If you are in the mood for a late evening holiday libation, The Drake has a bit more lively atmosphere. Listen to live, local entertainment on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays (8:30 PM – 12:00 AM), over one of their fabulous Festive Specialty Cocktails such as the Caramel Appletini and The Drake Egg Nog. Be sure to take a peep at their most magical Christmas tree too!
 4. Winter Cocktails

The Peninsula is decorated so beautifully this time or year and their alcoholic concoctions are just as impressive. Try some of Chef Kai’s signature fruit cake accompanied by one of their holiday adult beverages. They recommend the Tom and Jerry but the Frosty Mornings, Kingston Holiday and Red Ryder Fizz look equally tempting!
