Do you wear makeup to the pool or beach? I feel there is an unspoken rule that us Midwest ladies should be al natural when lounging poolside. But Lets. Get. Real. I have splotchy skin, dark under eye circles and the occasional blemish that I do not want exposed. Especially when guesting at East Bank Club, boating in Lake Michigan’s Play Pen or grabbing some rays at Oak Street Beach – where everyone seems beautiful and beachy chic.
So on the hunt for the-perfect-makeup-that-doesn’t-look-like-I-am-wearing-makeup, I finally nailed it. I wanted to share my poolside beauty essentials for those of you in the same boat or just love talking products.
- Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer – I am seriously in love. This evens out splotchy skin, contains SPF 20 and the clay component makes this stuff extra moisturizing…a necessity when baking in the sun all day. Just apply similar to face lotion and walk out the door glowing. No one will have a clue and can be our little secret.
- Benefit Erase Paste – I have pretty bad dark circles and lets face it…sometimes you just have late summer nights. To appear bright eyed and bushy tailed, apply a couple dabs of this concealer in the inner and outer corner of your eyes and blend. The extra creamy texture helps keep your eyes hydrated and blends flawlessly. I have tried every concealer under the sun, including the super expensive Cle de Peau Beaute and the raved about YSL highlighter. I have not been able to top this. Tip: I like purchasing the travel size – keeps fresher longer and fits perfectly in your sun glass case.
- Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge – Two birds. One stone. For both cheeks and lips. The pale pink is the perfect pink. Gives a hint of color but nothing obvious. Goes with everything and looks good on everyone.
- H2O Face Oasis Mist – Newest purchase in my makeup bag. It includes lots of vitamins and minerals and instantly refreshes your makeup. I also like to spritz this on when I am feeling hot. This face mist can be applied both under or over any beauty products. Again, go for the travel size to keep your beach bag roomy.
- Curl lashes and apply Clear Mascara – There is nothing worse than raccoon eyes and then trying to wipe it off. In my opinion, there is no such thing as waterproof mascara (but would love to be proven wrong!). Keep it easy with a simple curl (an always must) and a couple sweeps of clear mascara to lock into place.
- Although not makeup, I love toping it all off with a Panama Hat, some coveted shades and a lucite cuff (the clear with gold logo is found in stores only).
So I am curious to know…do you sport makeup incognito to the beach (or gym)? Any poolside beauty products you swear by? Please help a girl out!
xoxo
I love that you did a post about this! I totally agree with you- as much as a want be natural and avoid sweating my makeup off everywhere, the thought of going to the beach au natural is a little scary. I wear Benefit’s light foundation, which is basically a tinted moisturizer with SPF. Then I swipe on a little Benetint cheek stain by Benefit and that makes me feel good to go. And sunglasses! Those are key, so you don’t have to put eye make up on 🙂

Totally agree on the sunnies…they save lives. And I will have to check out that Benetint cheek stain…sounds like it would be waterproof too.
I wear a few things: moisturizer with SPF and the best concealer ever (from Lancôme) which looks very natural. And Carol’s Daughter lip balm. Its me but better! 🙂 So glad I found your blog!

Marie, thanks for stopping by! I am intrigued about Lancôme’s concealer…always trying to find the “best” one.
