Our cheeks were nice and rosy and comfy-cozy were we. At The Peninsula sky rink (aka an ice rink on a rooftop) and chalet that is. Have you heard of this?! It is seriously the cutest and coziest date in Chicago right now. Especially with the city magic all around!
If you are looking for something different, festive, outside, but still downtown, this is the place. Nothing beats a little aprés ski amongst sky scrapers instead of mountains. Whether it be with your friends, lover, kiddos or family, you must get over to The Peninsula Hotel’s outside sky rink and chalet. The Shanghai Terrace (a beautiful space in the summer) has been completely converted into a winter wonderland. You will not believe your eyes! Twinkling pine trees, holiday music and snowflake lighting.
So last Sunday I did just this and met up with my girlfriends for some Christmas magic. Kiddos were ice skating but we sat on the sidelines (next to the heaters) taking in the gorgeous views, while sipping hot cocoa and champagne. This outside terrace sits on the fourth floor right over Michigan Avenue – making for one of those hidden, fantastic sites.
Chicago was having abnormally gorgeous weather for December, so I kept it light with one of my favorite Vineyard Vine sweaters and flared denim. I love how the Red Velvet color just pops. These beautiful fair isles are another great “ski lodge” option. I added pattern, texture and layers with my tartan button up underneath, a striped beanie and plaid scarf. I have been trying to do this more often with my accessories as I tend to go for the solid colors.
The blue chalet serves cocktails and the most decadent hot chocolate. We naturally went with both and watched the little tikes bob and weave over the ice. It was a perfect day and I cannot wait to take the better half here for a surprise date!
If you have not checked out The Peninsula Hotel’s ice skating rink and chalet, you must drop your plans and get here immediately. You will be blown away! And so will your date.
