I can’t remember if I’ve told you this or not, but back in the day, I used to go to a new hair salon EVERY TIME to get the first time 50% off discount. I was investing my money on more important things – like restaurants, rent and clothes at the time. All hair stylists are the same right? Wrong!
Well after a year of salon inconsistency, my hair was a wreck! I learned the value of using quality hair salons and experienced stylists the hard way. I forked over the moolah and spent years reversing the effects of my bad decisions.
Investing in a long term plan is the best thing I’ve ever done in my adult life. Which is why I only trust my hair with the best!
Referred to as the “best blonde colorist in Chicago” I recently sat down with Jen Roskey – the Director of Hair Color at Civello, downtown. My hair needed some assistance!
Being blonde is high maintenance, so Jen dished over the best tips and trends for Fall. Plus she got my locks looking pretty and golden (trend alert) for the new season! Plus who doesn’t love before and after pics? If you are a blonde, I cannot recommend working with Jen at Civello enough.
P.S. They give you scalp AND hand massages while you wait. I’d go here alone just for the pampering.
Tips & Tricks for Blondies
- Use a protein enriched shampoo and conditioner to strengthen hair.
- Color protectors are the boss – preserves color and strength.
- Use a hair mask once a week.
- Do not shampoo everyday. You want your natural oils to moisturize the entire hair strand. You can rinse and dry shampoo is your best friend.
- Jen recommends using styling products, like this thickening tonic, to achieve body all over.
- Tease with a natural bristle brush.
- A round brush gives you volume. Different sizes give you different effects.
- The hair by your face is most fragile and more prone to breakage. Take care of these!
- Tell your hair colorist if you are prone to breakage so they can be extra gentle.
Top Hair Trends
- Golden and depth (this is what I got!)
- The pastel colored highlights are switching to jewel tones
- Lots of texture (tighter curls)
- More about style and less about the cut
- Lacey texture (crimping)
Plus, an unexpected way I am adding volume!
A huge thanks to Puja, for snapping my hair!
Love the recommendations! And love that jacket 🙂
Thanks Lindsey! I purchased this in NYC several years ago at the Piperlime store. RIP Piperlime right?
