Do you guys “Rent The Runway“? You know…RTR?
I feel like you either do all the way. Or not at all.
For me, I’m a big RTR girl. Especially on vacations. While visiting Miami a few weekends ago, I rented 3 outfits. Naturally, my girlfriends and I discussed the subject over curling hair and gluing eyelashes.
Their biggest problem, they told me, was finding something that fit and looked good – without trying it on first. “Can you imagine waisting money on a dress that looks horrendous?!” they exclaimed.
Being the kind hearted Mother Goose I am, I tucked these wide eyed ducklings under my wing and gave them the 411 on how to nail your look every. single. time.
Lucky for you, I’m going to tuck you under my wings today too – spilling my super duper top secret tips for Renting The Runway. Anyone can do it and it’s much easier than you think. Here’s the agenda..
- How to pick a dress that makes you look HOT.
- How to double your suitcase space.
- Save hundreds of dollars and never wear the same dress twice.
I accept donations in all monetary forms.
1. How to pick a dress that makes you feel HOT. This is a two part step.
A. Think of this first step as window shopping. Once a month, with no specific event in mind, cruise the Rent The Runway website. Lunch breaks, Real Housewives’ commercials, waiting in line – all fabulous opportunities. When you see something that tickles your fancy, give it a “heart”. No over thinking it. This heart categorizes your faves into their own compartment. Now you have a go-to spot filled with dresses you know you love.
Why is this important? When you need something on the fly, you aren’t pressured to find a dress within 3 minutes. Your favorites are complied together!
B. Try it On-line:
So now comes the part I like to call “trying it on”. Keep these in mind.
- EVERYTHING looks good on the model. Not you. Yeah, it’s depressing. But a model’s job is to make each and every dress look like a 10. Also, for all my short stacks out there – a short dress on the 5’10 model will be below the knees on on you. So remember it’s YOUR job to know what looks good on you.
- Look at the “reviews” and photos of previous renters. This is a goldmine of knowledge. People who have previously rented the same dress, leave their size, height, photos and tips that the models don’t tell you. For example – runs small, the fabric is thick so don’t rent this in warm weather, etc! Now you can gage how the the frock looks on a similar body type.
2. How to double your suitcase space.
This is my favorite trick of them all! When you order your dress/es, have them delivered to your destination – not your home. This way you can save the hassle of packing your dresses and save space for other things! Also, this may take you from checking in a large suitcase at the airport to a carry on – which enhances your entire flight experience.
For Miami, I filled out the “To Section” as follows:
Thompson Hotel
Attention: Hotel Guest – Nicole Regan
4041 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33140
After your vacay is over {tear}, leave your dresses with the concierge to mail back! So easy right?
Side note: I schedule my dresses to arrive the same day I do and give the front desk a heads up I am expecting a package upon checkin. Also, as a precautionary, I save my RTR dresses for day 2 or later of the vacation. Sometimes they can be delivered at night, and you may already be out and about.
3. Save hundreds of dollars and never wear the same dress twice.
I love RTR because I get to wear designer dresses for less than what I would spend at a common retail store. I typically never wear a purchased dress as often as I think I will. Thanks to social media, it’s tough getting away with wearing the same thing twice! This dress I rented was only $65. And I LOVED it!
So what do you think kids? Have you ever Rented The Runway? If so, do you like it?
Also, thank you Kristen for snapping my pics! Isn’t she a doll? P.S. I have a 3 day South Beach itinerary coming up! You are going to to love it.

My Other RTR Favorites!
I love Rent the Runway! Your tips are great. The customer review photos are especially helpful!
Thanks Jennie! I appreciate that. The customer reviews are where it’s at. P.S. It’s been so long! I hope you are well!
I’ve never thought of using RTR to send items to a hotel while traveling…you have the wheels turning in my head again 😉
You’ve got until the end of May to whip up that South Beach itinerary! The only thing on my agenda so far is Marion’s (for dinner/drinks) and Cecconi’s – but I want to hear what you thought of it!
26 and Not Counting
Yes, sending the dress to the hotel is a complete game changer! Oh you are going to have so much fun in Miami Jess! My goal is to have it posted this week. Just waiting on photo approval from my non-blogger friends 🙂 Unfortunately they don’t just let me share photos of them in swimsuits on the internet 😉 Haha!
Woo! Looking forward to it. As for the photos, I’m sure you all look amazing!
Oh my goodness. First of all, you are the cutest and look absolutely STUNNING here. Secondly, I am using RTR for a bridesmaid dress and I couldn’t be more excited! I have to fly to New York for the wedding, and the dress will simply be waiting for me when I get there. SO EASY! 🙂
xoxo!

Thank you Kelly! I can’t believe the bride is brave enough to try RTR for her wedding day! But a great steal of a deal for you! BM dresses can be pricey. I bet you are excited to go back to the motherland!
This dress looks amazing on you, I definitely think this is a keeper! 😉
Thank you Monica! It’s been my favorite rental so far. Great seeing you last week!
Love this post! Never thought about sending to the hotel but that’s SO smart! xo
Oh honey, you really need to go Unlimited with Rent the Runway. $139/month for up to 3 items at a time. You can end up with 9-12 items a month…this includes their jewelry, accessories and handbags. Keep items as long as you like, return items to get new items. This feature is a godsend for me because it’s gown season for me. I can order all the gowns I need, return them when I’m done. I even have a $1900 Nina Ricci bag out right now. Unlimited is also not limited to gowns. They have plenty of gorgeous items you can wear to work, etc. Better yet, since you’re a blogger…you can send invites. People that use the invite get a certain amount off, and you get a credit in your account…which could mean free months of designer clothes.
For me, Unlimited is perfect because I tend to only carry handbags for a week before it goes up on the shelf and isn’t brought out again for another year. This saves me from spending thousands of dollars on handbags, and it allows me to try out designers that are on my wish list (like Reed Krakoff, Zac Posen & Nina Ricci). Because I’ve also been doing the KonMari thing at home, this means I can still wear new designer fashion, but not have to keep it in my closet. I have a gown closet and it takes up half my wardrobe space. It’s basically a wear once and never wear it again blackhole. Unlimited also helps me save time in department stores trying on gown after gown. I also save a whole lot of money because it’s $139/month. That’s less than what I used to spend on ONE gown. In one month, I’ve borrowed 4 gowns, 3 handbags and a $300 Kate Spade necklace (I kept the Nina Ricci bag a little longer).
Definitely try Unlimited. This would be a great source for you as a blogger to get more outfit posts up, and link via Shopstyle/RTR credits.
That being said…I loved your suggestion re: travel. That is a pretty awesome idea. I’ll have to try that out from now on. All the best, Michelle Kenneth
