Every year I go on a girls trip.
But there’s nothing more exhausting than coordinating a gaggle of ladies’ schedules. Between all the text messaging, email chains and opinions, we could write a novel and sell it as a Barns and Noble best seller.
The solution? A staycation.
No travel time. Easy. And you feel a million miles away.
So that’s exactly what we did! Two weeks ago, we stuffed our bags and fled our husbands, kids, problems, never ending inbox, responsibility, dignity homes to shack it up at the Loews Chicago O’Hare Hotel. We never looked back.
Normally I’m all about the downtown Chicago experience. But with the city, comes a slew of caveats. The attempt to meet up with certain people (your phones are constantly out); avoid running into certain people (paranoia!); and figure out the latest hotspots (because we’ve got to see and be seen). Don’t get me wrong. The wild city goose chase will always have my heart. But when life gets busy and the times together less frequent, quality time is in order.
By making plans outside the city, the pressure was off and we focused on each other’s company. Which made for one of the BEST night’s I’ve had in a loooong time.
Loews is incredible because 1. I adore the luxurious downtown location (which is off the charts gorgeous) and 2. they offer something specifically for us ladies. The Girlfriend’s Getaway Special. Here’s the scoop:

The Traveller Bar, situated in the Loews Lobby, is designed by and for cocktail enthusiasts to highlight the golden age of cocktails. This mobile, 4 seater bar is making its trek from coast to coast with stops in the heartland to take root in every Loews property in North America. We were lucky to be there at the same time!
Unfortunately it just took flight to Seattle 2 days ago. But you can follow its full journey here. Regardless, you can get your cocktails by visiting The Ashburn and be sure to ask for Charlie. He got the conversation started and whips you up some crafty cocktails. He even let me behind the bar! Thanks so much Charlie! I’ll be back soon.
In addition to catching up over drinks, we shopped. The Fashion Outlets are sooooooo good and right next door. I come here regularly on my own and if you haven’t been, run. You can find the best designer clothes for less. Tory Burch, DVF, Vince, J.Crew and Barney’s are my favorites. We hit up an authentic Mexican restaurant for dinner and live music at Bub City. All within walking distance too! Yes, they have a Bub City and Joes on Weed in O’Hare. Who knew?!
The shopping, champagne service, plush robes, cocktails and breakfast made for a luxurious stay. But the getting ready together; swapping beauty tips (ummmmm did you know about this spray on lotion?!); reminiscing old college stories and recapping the night’s shenanigans made for a memory we’ll never forget.
