Two weekends ago I had a Girl’s Night Out (GNO) with some of my besties.
And guess where we went? A steakhouse. Sullivan’s to be exact. Have you ever done a GNO at a steakhouse? It’s pretty much the best.
When you get a little older, your friends branch out in their own direction. Families, lifestyles, kids, you name it. As a result, the squad doesn’t get together as often.
The perk? Soooooooo much to talk about. I mean…we couldn’t stop gabbing!
With a lot of ground to cover, we did the full shebang steakhouse experience. Martinis to start (it’s my steakhouse tradition). Allllllll the appetizers. And filets. Oh the filets!
We kept forgetting to look at the menu. “No pressure, just enjoy ladies”, our waiter said. Thanks Donavan. Your tip just went up 1%.
As for us girls? We covered the usual topics of conversation.
Big news. Life changes. A little gossip (full disclosure). Does gossiping count if it’s all facts and no judging? Then of course we threw in the occasional advice. We pitched in with exquisite advice too because we are basically perfect and know everything. You know how it goes ladies. We RUN this city ?
I maybe ate all the melted cheese off of the shrimp appetizer. And our waiter suggested the egg rolls. Good call Donavan, good call. But we kept the rest of the evening healthy and light. Girl’s gotta watch her figure. Did you know Meomi Pinot Noir is a fruit?
My girlfriend swore we had to order the kale salad (her favorite). Whenever someone suggests “KALE” anything – I secretly think “laaaaaaame”. Even if you’re name is Oprah Winfrey, I’d think it. All facts not judging right ?? But sure enough, it came to the table and I ate my words and the kale. Three times over. Touché good friend. Touché.
Since my girlfriends are champs, I made them take the early 6:30 PM reservation. All so I could have the perfect lighting for photos. But let’s be honest. One of my squad members is pregnant – which is equivalent to tempting a child in a candy story. Free dinner? She’s in!
But how else could I highlight the bar, outside tables and dining room for you guys? You Cedar & Rush readers with your high quality, DSLR images. I totally don’t do this for myself. Nooooooo….I hate photography and bossing people around 😉 Again – only facts here. No judgment.
For the grand finale, filets all around! With a side of brussels. It’s what us ladies do. The tenderest of all steaks, filets are the lightest and tastiest entree out there. I got wild and requested the “bone in” filet. Extra flavor you know.
I’ll tell ya…lingering dinners with good friends, never goes out of style. And should be cherished forever. These times are a luxury. Have you ever been to Sullivan’s? It’s one of my old school favorites!
Also, how to order steak like a man {I still refer to this post alllllll the time} and how to order wine at a steakhouse.
Thank you Sullivan’s for collaborating on this post! Our meal was comped but my words are genuine.
Got to love a good girls night filled with wine and steak 😉 One of my favorite posts from your site was the Steak 101 feature (and I’m not just saying that because I’m biased!).
Thank you Katie! We really did have the best time. And as for the Steak 101 feature – thank you! I always have to refer to it to remember what to order and not order. Hehe. Thanks again lady!
We have friends coming in on Friday and we made reservations for Sullivan’s! I just showed Pete your post and needless to say, he’s even more excited now 😉
Yesss!!!! Oh my gosh you guys are going to have so much fun. Be sure to get the Kale salad. And I can’t believe you are already having people visit you! #Don’tSkipABeat
We were joking that we didn’t even make it a week! But it randomly worked out that they could both take off tonight and I am SO glad 🙂
Sounds like a great GNO!! I love a good steak dinner but never thought of going there for a girls night, that’s a great idea! I hope you are doing well and I need to come out to Elmhurst soon!!
xo, Sarah
It was the first time (which I find so weird!) I’ve gone to a steak place with just girls (except for STK). But we had a blast. Just like one of the boys 😉 Yes, come to Elmhurst. I’d love it!
