The way I packed for flights five years ago has completely revolutionized.
Thanks to the tricks I learned from my jet setting friends and reading oodles of blogs, I feel like I finally get it. The result? I spend less time pampering and more time enjoying my destination. Traveling feels effortless now, like I’ve got it together. It’s less stressful and I feel put together at anytime, even after a long flight!
Here are the best tips I’ve picked up:
- PACK A CARRY ON. All pro travelers carry on these days. No checking bags. This is my friend’s number one pet peeve {who travels the world} and separates the pros from the ameteurs. Not only is it SO much easier, there are numerous benefits. You don’t have to wait for your luggage; you won’t loose your luggage; and you save so much time during your actual trip. Since space is limited, you have to plan your outfits ahead of time. Which means you know exactly what you’re wearing. No “trying things on” options and making decisions. You just change and go! This blog post holds some fabulous tips for doing exactly this.
- GET TSA APPROVAL. I don’t have this yet, but I’m getting it! Smaller, quicker lines and it’s pretty much the way the world is heading. Time for us to get on board. Now you have time to get some new magazines and grab a cocktail before the flight!
- NO MAKEUP AND MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE! If you want to look fresh and dewy after a long flight, this is the BEST tip. This is also the newest lesson for me which I implemented last week in San Francisco. There’s something about flights that dry out your skin. And a full face of makeup just feels gross after landing. So to keep your skin hydrated, keep it clean and well pampered. I have been a long time fan of Peter Thomas Roth products. I packed my Water Drench™ Hyaluronic Cloud Cream Hydrating Moisturizer and Serum, which I applied on the flight. As soon as I landed, I had plump, fresh skin that was makeup ready. And I hate to toot my own horn, but I looked great for dinner! As soon as we landed, I took 5 minutes to quickly apply a little bit of makeup and I was dinner ready. There’s nothing worse than reapplying makeup over makeup. It just never looks quite right. I actually know bloggers who wear face masks on planes, but I just can’t quite get there. This is the PERFECT moisturizer that’s light, yet moisturizing and keeps you looking great!
- LAYERED TRAVEL OUTFIT. I put a lot of thought into what I wear flying so I am comfortable before, during and after travel. My no fail combo is jeans, a long sleeved blouse, slip on flats, a scarf and a trench. The scarf doubles as a blanket or pillow (I am always cold). Once you get to your hotel, you can quickly slip off your flats for heels. Roll up long sleeves if you are somewhere warm. And a trench is perfect for cooler nights and goes with everything! I didn’t even have to change when we arrived to San Francisco.
So there you have it! Do you have any fun travel tips? I’m not a pro, but I’m TRYING to get better. I have a trip to Charleston in 2 weeks and my goal is to get TSA approved prior.
