We’ve had lots of company recently. Family over the weekend and Katie {my intern!} last night.
Sean and I love opening up our home. We enjoy having friends and family around and it makes us happy knowing they enjoyed their stay. There are a few particular things we like to do in preparation for overnight guests. It makes them feel welcome; helps you relax; and makes you a better host too.
So I thought I’d share you a few of these ‘particulars’, along with some new things I want to try next time…
Welcome your guests with something special.
A basket of toiletries makes a wonderful welcome gift. This minimalistic basket is gorgeous and allows beautiful packaged products to steal the show. A hand written note or their favorite magazine is a nice touch too. You could also put pictures of expected guests in a frame on the bedside table.
Have towels and washcloths easily available.
Make towels visible and accessible. This way they don’t even have to ask. I like to place freshly washed bath towels rolled up in a big basket on the bed. Natural, handmade baskets are a huge trend too! Guests can tote several to the bathroom or just grab one and go. These gray striped bath towels are gorgeous. They even have a hook loop sewn on the seam to easily hang to dry. I told Sean to keep his paws off these. For guests only 😉
Incorporate fresh flowers or a plant.
Even the smallest bouquet of fresh flowers from the grocer is a special touch! This goes for both the bathroom and guest room.
Leave soaps in their creative packaging by the shower.
Talk about a luxury hotel experience! I even invite guests to take them home if they like. An unexpected gesture like this goes a long way. Of all the soaps I displayed this past weekend, this was the first one opened. Even despite it hiding on the bottom.
Have the bathroom super clean and keep necessities handy so your guests feel comfortable.
Clear out personal items and keep shampoo, soap, & other bathroom needs in plane sight. This is why I especially LOVE these glass containers. Your guests understand to help themselves and see exactly what’s inside. I filled mine with cotton balls, Q-tips and a luxurious sea salt hand cream. But the possibilities are endless. A lovely scrub or disposable razors are some ideas too. This will really make your guests feel loved.
Leave a card on the dresser with the WIFI address & password.
Genius. I’m for sure doing this next!
A large bottle or carafe of iced water bedside.
Just in case guests are thirsty overnight. Glass over plastic too.
So there you have it! How do you make your company feel extra special? Any neat or helpful tips? Or if you’ve been to a luxurious hotel recently, spill their secrets so we can do them too!
