My Self Care Routine

self care tips

When it comes to taking care of yourself, I believe in one thing:

Turn the mundane, into things we Love.

Here’s how I transformed six weekly routines into something I look forward to!

6 WEEKLY ROUTINES YOU CAN MAKE FUN

Getting Up: Sean knick named me ‘The Dragon’ because I’m the crankiest morning person alive. We recently adopted a new morning routine, and my attitude towards the alarm clock changed for the better.

Every morning we go for a “coffee car ride”. Sean drives, while Larry rides in his lap. Larry barks at every dog we drive by. We all agree it’s our favorite part of the day. I know we won’t be able to do this forever, but I  wake up SO happy! So try to find something that makes your morning a little more tolerable.

Drinking Water: We all know it’s good for us but easier said than done. This $25 purchase flipped my bad habit on it’s head in ONE day.

My Hair: The ONE thing I’m the most self conscious about is my hair. It’s thin, fine and receding. A girl in high school made fun of my hair once and I’ll NEVER forget it.

To make my strands the longest they can be, I use a mask. Right now I’m using It’s a 10 Miracle Hair Mask it keeps the ends healthy and prevents breakage. I also try new things on the regular. Did you know your hair can get immune to using the same products over and over? Switching things up keeps your hair on it’s toes. Cibu’s Argan Oil Treatment is my newest try!

I love popping by my local Hair Cuttery for new affordable, high quality products. It’s so convenient because I can swing by after I hit up the grocery store! I especially like their Cibu haircare and Nioxin (for hair growth!). If you aren’t familiar with Hair Cuttery, they’re a family owned and operated chain of hair salons all around the country. They offer $30 blow outs (IT’s THE BEST KEPT SECRET!), coloring, waxing and texturizing services. And I JUST discovered some of them do extensions! So if you’re ever in the market (and don’t want to pay a premium for the same exact service as a higher end salon), TRY THEM!

Exercise: Buying new work out clothes, writing down your goals and all that mumbo jumbo we hear ALLLLLL the time – it only gets you so far. The key is finding something you LOVE to do. Once you find it, you’ll effortlessly do it more. I’m VERY PROUD to say I go to Orange Theory 2-3 times a week now. But it wasn’t always this way. I was trying to force myself to do something I hated and couldn’t understand why I wouldn’t want to go. Ever since I discovered something that keeps me excited, I sleep better, look better and happier because of it. If you don’t work out now but wish you did, dedicate the next three months to finding a physical activity you enjoy. It’s LIFE CHANGING.

Brushing My Teeth: I recently revamped my oral hygiene routine. I now feel like I’m at a luxurious hotel and makes your bathroom look straight out of a magazine.

Diet: Over the last year, I’ve lost 2 inches off my waist without even trying. I contribute this to switching my diet to real food. REAL food to me means non-processed food, where I understand every single ingredient listed. Which is basically everything.

When I did the 21 Day Fix, I learned how processed food makes you want to eat more processed food. When you remove these toxic ingredients from your diet, your body goes through withdrawal. Even if you’re working out or not eating a lot, it’s an addiction and vicious cycle, making it impossible to lose weight. Major “aha!” moment for me. By eating REAL  FOOD your cravings disappear and the foods you want to eat do a 180! It’s INSANE guys.

If you’re overwhelmed by all the ‘non-GMO’, ‘organic’ jargon and wish you knew more – buy Kristen Cavallari’s book! The way she explains all the food terminology is like a you’re talking to a best friend. It’s SO simple to comprehend and will change your outlook on food. It did for me!

A lot of life’s responsibilities aren’t fun. So why not make them more enjoyable? Or at least get the most of our efforts. You’ll feel more organized, on top of your game and better all around. They also creep into several other aspects of your life you don’t even realize. Like job performance, relationships, organization and self love.

So what’s your self care routine like? Anything on your list we could all benefit from? Leave a comment below!
