The Lettuceware Trend
Okay, did you know lettuce ware is a “thing”? It wasn’t until the Tory Burch x Dodie Thayer collaboration that I even know of it’s existence. I immediately fell head over heels in love with the leafy tea cups, plates and bowls. Not only is it whimsical but it’s classic. A rare combo!
The Backstory
So here’s the backstory in a nutshell. Lettuce ware began many, many moons ago in a little town called Palm Beach. Created by famous potter, Dodie Thayer, her collection quickly became the “it” trend for Palm Beach socialites. It spread like wild fire among the elite of the elite and even collected by Jackie O, Bunny Williams, and so many more! You can read all about the trend and back story here and here.
It Costs What?!!!!!
Today, Dodie’s original lettuce-ware goes for THOUSANDS of dollars. For example, this place setting for eight is going for a measly $17K on Ebay. They’re collector pieces due to the detail and small supply. Supposedly it took her months to create just a handful of pieces. The new Tory Burch x Dodie Thayer collaboration is much more reasonable {but by no means a drop in the bucket}. They just released a white collection too that’ll make your jaw hit the floor.

How and Where To Get The Trend For Less
The other day, I was strolling through Homegoods (as a good housewife does) and I found THESE. Jack pot baby! After a great deal of research (aka spending hours online), I found several pieces that fit all price ranges. Even if it’s just a few plates, a single serving platter or an entire collection, you can be just like a Palm Beach socialite too.
What’s shocking about this trend is it can be used allllll Spring and Summer long. Which I fully plan on doing. {Yes, Sean. It’s staying put!} He thinks it’s insanity but I think it’s SO PRETTY.
How To Style Lettuceware
Here’s how a few ladies I admire styled theirs! {P.S. ONE of them is going to be featured on The Guest List. Can you guess which one?!}.
I used ours to gussy up our Easter table! Just add a few moss covered bunnies, some chintz, a blue and white table cloth and you’re good to go. And how fun are those grass eggs? THEY’RE REAL. My mom made them by cracking open REAL eggs and planting grass seed inside the shells. And the grass grew from nothing (aka seeds) to what you see in these pictures in under a week! Here’s how to do it.
