Where To Stay In San Diego

Have you been to San Diego?

If it wasn’t for a recent work trip, I don’t know how long it would have taken me to get there. Boy was I shocked! Not only is it one of my new favorite cities, it’s unlike any other place I’ve been.

San Diego borders Mexico and known for it’s year round perfect weather, restaurants, hotels, museums and parks. It’s also home to the military’s huge navy base – where you can see all kinds of ships, choppers and even Navy Seals training.

True Story. I witnessed a guy in a wet suit jump out of his pick up truck and full on SPRINT to the beach with his surf board on his shoulder. Ha! You don’t see that in Chicago ladies and gentlemen…

When deciding where to stay, we knew we wanted to be on Coronado! Coronado is a small beach town on a peninsula in San Diego Bay. It’s SO COOL because you get the best of both worlds – the beach resort and the city.

Given our love for Loews Hotels {I stayed with them in Miami and Rosemont}, it was a no brainer to book a room at their Coronado Bay Resort. Loews always has the BEST locations, customer service, amenities and activities.

Coronado has one of the best rated beaches in the country, so if you’re looking for a phenomenal beach vacation with access to a big city night life, put Loews Coronado Bay Resort on your bucket list.

FUN FACT: Loews is owned by Jonathan Tisch, a co-owner of the New York Giants!

Here’s a recap of our stay!

Upon arrival, you’re greeted with a glass of champagne. Oh how I LOVE welcome cocktails! The rooms are spacious, huge bathrooms and so nice and clean. But it’s the amenities that take the cake! Here are just a few noteworthy highlights…

    • It’s a AAA Four Diamond Hotel
    • Our favorite past time was sipping a cocktail on the patio overlooking the ocean and city skyline.
    • The jaw dropping grounds are an experience in iteself. I LOVED walking through their garden and nectar orchard. I plucked a kumquat off a branch and ate it right there!
    • It’s the only hotel located on the marina. Tons of yachts and you can even see Tijuana’s city lights at night.

  • Yoga on the beach. We saw dolphins while practicing our downward dog.
  • Spinning on the marina. So cool!
  • The resort is just steps to the beach. Their lovely staff will set you up with chairs, towels and more!
  • We spent a full day at the pool – which is actually three pools and a hot tub!
  • I personally freaked out over the abundance of white fluffy towels.
  • The onsite restaurant – Crown Landing – is to DIE for! They even use fresh vegetables from their garden.
  • One unique surprise is Flavor by Loews Hotels. You get to taste the best of San Diego’s dining scene without leaving the hotel! To say they partnered with the top artisan food & beverage vendors is an understatement. We sampled local beer, some of the best cupcakes I’ve ever had (that were VEGAN!), a gin made by a woman owned distillery {my friend Kelly actually interviewed her here} and some of the best seafood the city has to offer.

The best night may have been our last though! Loews treated us to a full experience at their restaurant – Crown Landing. I ate the best tuna tartar I’ve ever had {fresh from that day!}. We overlooked the marina while watching the sunset and I felt so happy. Every dish was more flavorful and complex than the next. Don’t even get me started on the cocktails either. Hats off to the chef and his team for spoiling us rotten! There are so many fabulous restaurants in San Diego and this is worth a visit in itself! Plus the decor is just as delicious as the food!

Sean and I adored San Diego but it was the Loews Coronado Bay Resort who made us feel at home! We’re already plotting to go back.

Have you ever been to San Diego? If so, any recommendations on where to go next time? We enjoyed life at the hotel so much we didn’t venture out much!

A huge thanks to the Loews Coronado Bay Resort for hosting us! All opinions are 100% my own.
