Hi guys! How are you? I’m pumped to give you a ‘life with Penelope’ update today.

After three weeks of being a mom, here’s my over all consensus:

Having a baby is NUTS.

Literally…this is what happens:

One day you DON’T have a baby. Then the next day you DO.

There’s no “oooooh…we’ll give you a baby for an hour a day this week, then we’ll slowly ease you into it.” Nope! It’s ride or die. And your life, as you know it, has changed forever.

Motherhood has hit me straight between the eyes. In both big and small ways. One of those changes is our morning routine.

It used to start off with Sean, Larry and I piling in the car with a trip to the coffee shop. We did this EVERY SINGLE MORNING by the way. I’d sip my cappuccino while watching the news and answer emails. All by 7 AM.

Now, Sean takes Penelope in the wee hours of the morning (the sun isn’t even up), so I can get an extra hour of sleep. I take the night shifts so this is huge. Sean loves his one-on-one time with her. She’s so happy when she first wakes up!

I’ll eventually come downstairs and then it’s me and P the rest of the day! I’ll pour myself a luke warm cup of coffee (that Sean made earlier) and muster up a quick breakfast. No more coffee shops. And what used to take five minutes to write an email, has turned into A FULL BLOWN HOUR. All thanks to outfit changes, dirty diapers, pacifier drops (oh the horror!) and ‘just because’ snuggles.

I’ve also found myself doing the silliest of things thanks to the lack of sleep. Like put my contacts in twice because I don’t remember doing it the first time. Yes, I put 2 contacts in each eye. I also called my friend on a Saturday night. She was out. Shocking! (I thought it was Thursday in my defense.) I’ve called Penelope “Larry” a couple times and I even put a diaper on inside out.

It’s the most WONDERFUL thing that’s ever happened to me.

One thing that’s made our mornings and lives WAY easier is the Stokke Tripp Trapp Newborn Set. The Tripp Trapp is a highchair and the Newborn Set attaches on top. We just scoot her right up to the table and she’s within arms reach. I can get some work done and easily pop that pacifier back in her mouth as soon as she spits it out. I can also tell her to pipe down when she’s being sassy with just a turn of my head 😉 Bending down gets old real fast with bouncers, swings, etc. at floor level. That constant up and down secretly adds up to a lot of time throughout the day. Having her at table height is a GAME CHANGER because I’m able to be way more productive. Larry likes it too and even steals kisses when I’m not looking.

When you’re expecting your first baby, you have no idea what items you’ll REALLY use until your little peanut arrives. The amount of times a day we use the Stokke Newborn Set actually shocked us. It’s quickly become one of our FAVORITE things. Even my friend {who’s a mom of three} commented how awesome it was. For SURE register for one if you’re pregnant! Mealtimes are ten times more enjoyable. Penelope even joined us at the dinner table for Valentine’s Day!

All in all, my new motherhood routine has been an adjustment and I still have a long way to go.

Sean went back to work this week and is already traveling. So I’ve gotten a tiny glimmer of how mom life can get lonely and how looooong the days can be. You are legit at this tiny human’s beck and call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. So I’m curious and excited to see how I mix work into mom life and mom life into work.

Luckily we have amazing family, friends and products, like Stokke, to make our transition into parenthood a little easier. Which allows us to focus on what really matters.

If you have any tips, please say the word. And all I can say is hallelujah for Amazon Prime grocery shopping!

All right. It’s time for me to get back to my girl! She’s got the hiccups.
