A Celeb Stylists Go To Wardrobe Essentials

I just watched the BEST YouTube video of my life.

It’s by Kate Young, one of the most in-demand Hollywood stylists. Her roster includes Jennifer Lawrence, Selena Gomez, Sienna Miller…I think you get the level I’m talking about.

In the video she shows everything she takes with her to a client’s red carpet or photoshoot. And most of the items are relevant to us common folk!

She’s articulate and to the point. And gives so many takeaways and detail as to WHY they’re the best.

At one point I was like… “Kaaaate! STOP. You’re giving away all your secrets!”.

You can watch the video for yourself above and right here. Which I highly, highly recommend.

And so we could all reference the products and remember the WHY behind each one (without having to re-watch the video), I made a handy dandy list.

AKA I transcribed her YouTube.

There were a couple items that didn’t seem relevant (like wardrobe clips, a ring sizer, white gloves for getting dressed, etc.) so I left those out.

But my goal is to slowly build my very own Kate Young kit.

Now let’s skip to the good part…

Kate Young’s Must-Have Essentials

The Laundress Sweater Stone – Super essential. Light weight so it’s easy to pack. Takes off any pilling.

Tekno Punch Plier – People often like to wear their shoes tighter so they feel secure. This contraption puts extra holes in belts or shoe straps so you can make them fit better.

Matte Black Safety Pins – Can use these on lots of clothes and won’t see them.

Lord Jones CBD Body Lotion – High heels are flattering and they make clothes look GOOD. But boy do they hurt! Kate’s trick is to apply CBD cream on your feet so you can wear higher heels for longer. She also suggests ball of foot pads and full gel pad inserts by Dr. Scholls to make feet hurt less.

The Laundress Static Solution – Likes the travel size. Static can be a real problem, especially in hotel rooms thanks to the carpet. Kate prefers the smell of this one to traditional Static Gaurd.

Bristle Lint Brush – The one Kate talks about is from a hotel room. But I get the impression any lint brush with bristles will do. The key to a brush (over a roller) is they get the lint off of heavier coats and suit materials. They also brush the nap down on the actual weave of the fabric and makes it look sharp!

Vapon Topstick Double-Sided Tape – Double sided tape originally meant for men’s toupees. Holds in place real nice.

Shout Wipes – ALWAYS has on hand if wearing white. Tells clients to keep in their bags.

Kosas Deodorant – Kate didn’t speak to WHY this deodorant is a “go to” but keeps it on hand as it’s a common ask. When I pulled up the brand, I found its all natural with STELLAR reviews. So now I want to try it!

Nubra Seamless Bra – FANTASTIC if you are a small “C” cup or below. Great for backless, very low cut dresses and pieces with open sides. Covers the nipples and provides a little bit of lift and togetherness.

Silicone Valley Nipple Covers – Kate likes two nipple covers but this one is her favorite (#2 is next). They’re beautiful, smooth and easy to take on and off. BUT depending what you are wearing, you can sometimes see the edges through the fabric…like a silk dress. Which is where her second recommendation steps in…

Breast Petals – If the above nipple covers don’t do the trick, these are seamless. But a bit more unpleasant.

Bring It Up Instant Breast Lift – Just lifts everything up a bit without a bra. Made for smaller boobs. Great for a slip dress, backless dress or dress with no sides.

Commando Classic Solid Thong – The most invisible and comfortable thong she knows of. Comes in several skin tones.

Skims Solution Wear Bodysuit – FULL coverage that goes from your shoulders down to your knees. Clothes lay really nicely over top. Not needed for every day as most people find the compression uncomfortable. But if there is a special occasion when you want to look REALLY, REALLY good, this is IT. They provide compression, nice shaping and even gives you good posture, you stand up straight and your body is all held in.

Cosabella Corset Bra – one of Kate’s very favorite things when a strapless bra is needed. She buys them by the case! It’s very strong and because it has a longer line, it holds up better. HOT TIP: It also has a bone on the side and if you push in on the side you get a narrower silhouette.

Spanx High Waist Thong – used often. It’s seamless like the Commando thong mentioned above, but it has control panels throughout. Great for postpartum, feeling bloated, or need a reminder to hold in your tummy.

Padded Underwear – this may be more of a celebrity thing BUT ya never know and I found it fascinating! So on the list it goes. This pair of underwear has butt pads in it. Kate learned from a costume designer that the way to make some areas of the body look smaller is to make other areas look bigger. I feel like watching the video of this part is the best way to go. She even takes the pads out and sews them on the sides.

La Perla Bodysuit {sadly the one Kate shows is no longer available} – Really functional and looks like skin. A lot of people like an unlined cup, so this is a way to give support and control without all the pressure and padding.

Black Socks – A lot of us forget about socks. When you have a boot and a look and suddenly realize you need a pair – she likes these.

Wolford Bodysuit – When you want the look of a t-shirt under a jacket or under a dress, Kate often uses a Wolford bodysuit. They’re her favorite layering pieces and almost always has a white AND a black. They’re very fancy and look great. Plus they’re soft, matte, comfortable and can’t see your bra through them. You don’t have to worry about it coming untucked or buckling in the front unlike a traditional t-shirt.

Spanx Waist Cincher – Kate admits these are REALLY intense. Some clients’ let her put them on and some don’t. They can make your waist almost 2 cm smaller!

Okay so what do you want FIRST?! EVERYTHING? Me. Too. Here’s what especially caught my eye…

I can’t believe I’m admitting this but I don’t own a strapless bra. So the Cosabella Corset Bra is #1 for me. Like “WHY” Nicole?!

The Spanx High Waist Thong speaks to me too since it’s recommended for postpartum.

And a Wolford Bodysuit is a long term goal…seems practical, extremely flattering and something I’d wear weekly.

I’ll also stock up on the shout wipes and Dr. Scholl’s foot gels {all easy and affordable Amazon buys}.

Hope you enjoy this as much I do!!!

Believe it or not, I sometimes write blog posts for myself. This is one of them.
